» Saskatoon hometown launches for Adam Saint
My hometown launches for the Russell Quant series are legendary. For the first Adam Saint book, When The Saints Go Marching In, I wanted to try something new, to mark a new beginning, a new series, a new hero. So we changed launch formats. Instead of a weekday night, we went to Saturday afternoon. Instead of a long program with readings and entertainment, we had a signing from 3-4, then an onstage interview, then a final signing until all the books were signed (went to about 5:30).
The questions for the interview were solicited through social media (Twitter, email, Facebook). I enlisted my friends, local celebs Penney Murphy & Brent Loucks, to lead the interview.
By all accounts a huge success and lots of laughs...oh and did I mention the non-stop wine & cheese service?

Getting ready to start the first signing with my mom at my side. Several people actually asked her to sign the book too - she loved it!
Book Signing with my mom. Mom has now sat next to me at my Saskatoon launches four or five times and it is always a special moment. What a thing to be doing together! Never would have thought about it so many years ago while milking cows together in the barn!
The signing line. We went with a new launch concept this time. An hour of signing. Then on stage interview. Then another hour of signing. All the while wine & cheese being served.

If you look closely, you can see that Mom is also being asked to sign the book. (A few days earlier she appeared with me on my interview on CTV - now she's famous!)
Paul & Bill.
Super Baba! Chrissy.
Marty & Lorie.
Candy & Andrea. Andrea, a fellow writer, was one of three people who went right home and read the whole book in one sitting.
Mom soaking it all in.
Waiting to go on. With Herb. Those last few seconds before you go on stage in front of any crowd are always special. Sometimes nervous, always excited.

James, Kathryn, Dan.
James & Dan came to the launch despite having just got off a plane from Paris and no doubt suffering jet lag.
While I sign, Mom visits.
With events coordinator Marcy Hildebrandt.
Marcy put together the very cool posters - including the one in the background which will be sold off with proceeds going to Camp fYrefly Sask. The lovely bouquet - which I incidentally match - was from my family.
With sister Hope & our highschool principal Don Cambridge and Mrs. Cambridge.
Laughing my way through the signing.
